It is an honour to lead an institution with over 170 years of philanthropic heritage, founded in 1852 by the Parsi merchant prince Sir Cowasjee Jehangir. Today, the Sir Cowasjee Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences is not merely a hospital; it is a vital healthcare ecosystem serving the people of Sindh and beyond.
Our vision is to honour the legacy of our founders by transitioning from a traditional custodial model to a world-class, autonomous centre for behavioural sciences. This transformation is driven by three core pillars:
Clinical Compassion: We provide ethical, patient-centred care for over 77,000 outpatient visits annually and currently manage a capacity of 500 beds, which will soon reach 700.
Academic & Research Leadership: We have repurposed our institutional mission to focus on teaching and research excellence. This includes:
Managing MD and DPM postgraduate programs in collaboration with LUMHS.
Facilitating CPSP degree programs and specialized academic activities with the Pakistan Association of Cognitive Therapy (PACT).
Coordinating research for MPhil and PhD programs with SZABIST Hyderabad and the University of Sindh, Jamshoro.
Overseeing professional nursing education at the Sir CJ College of Nursing.
Global Collaboration: We are implementing international standards in forensic psychiatry through our ongoing Global Citizenship Twinning Project with the State Hospital in Carstairs, Scotland.
As we move toward autonomy, our commitment remains fixed: to ensure that every patient receives the highest standard of mental health treatment with dignity and respect. We invite government bodies, NGOs, and donors to partner with us in this mission of sustaining compassionate mental healthcare.
