A legacy of care, philanthropy, and psychiatric leadership since 1852
Founded in 1852, the Sir Cowasjee Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry (SCJIP) is the oldest and largest psychiatric facility in Pakistan. The institute was established through the visionary philanthropy of Sir Cowasjee Jehangir Readymoney, a Parsi industrialist known for his status as a 'merchant prince'. Following a visit by Sir Alexander Grant, Sir Cowasjee promptly committed 50,000 rupees to construct a permanent facility at Giddu Bandar.
